    How do you hide the nail holes in the stone?

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie Годину тому

      I used a tiny wax pencil that was tan to match the stone but while I was doing tbis, I quickly found out how difficult it was to find the holes from the Brad nails. The holes disappear in the texture of the stone so… I stopped filling the holes and you cannot see them at all.

    Beautiful upgrades! It’s a shame the school systems across the country have done away with most shop classes to teach kids how to diy or turn it into a profession.

      Yes I agree, it’s so sad. We chose to homeschool our son this year and so far it’s going great. He’s done with class work in 2 hours and the rest of the day he learns about DIY home projects with me and cooking, and planting. I wish we would have done this with our daughters too. But they’re out of school now.

    No offense but that “stone” looks awful. I was thinking you would paint it or something. Everything else is great.

    • @DesignsbyDonnie
      @DesignsbyDonnie Годину тому

      No worries, I always want to hear your opinion. It makes me a better DIYer. We actually love the stone though, and it changed our entire house. Our cheap home now appears like what the multi million dollar homes around here look like. It really elevated it. The only bummer is that the rest of the home now looks bland and non custom. lol 😂 I don’t know what to do because I’m not gonna stone the entire thing. I only wanted an accent wall. I’m gonna have to introduce more texture somehow though.

    Great Job. DIY is the way to go, if you have the skills and gumption to do it. Hurricane Harvey ruined our house several years ago (just a few years after a flood also did it). And the insurance never pays enough to bring it back to spec, especially after your deductible. So after watching the flood remodel, I did much of the Harvey remodel myself. I used contractors for the heavy and messy labor stuff like drywall, tile, painting, etc. But by doing much of the other stuff myself (demo, kitchen cabinets, trim work, etc) I was able to get much higher quality material in than the insurance called for.

    HOA - Government for your neighborhood. Communism only grows unless stopped. HOA's are mostly bunch of karens with too much time on their hands looking to squash any joy they find. Just like in gubment the power goes straight to their heads. Did they see your ink, or perhaps you display an American Flag ? Very easy to trigger these flakes.

    It's funny re-watching this and seeing that Denali/Work truck - Mostly retired contractor here, have had a fleet of trucks, but my 2006 GMC Denali is still sitting out there on the drive. Box trucks, service trucks, truck bodies of all types and you will get robbed. But somehow that Denali with tinted windows looking like a desert runner holding 20k+ of dryout, hvac, pick your trade never got broken into. Change the oil ever 3k miles, brakes every two-three years and tires every five what's not to love. Those are respectable motors and awd, there is quite the aftermarket for folks that convert them to over landers when you sell. Even beat to shit its a solid 5k.

    The working class furniture store is called "Ikea" and if you're willing to do a little bit of work the stuff you buy there can be extremely durable. I haven't personally had any issues with it, but with some creativity and some threaded inserts and possibly a bit of extra scrap lumber in the right places, you can make the stuff a lot stronger. Honestly, I'd rather have stuff hand made with a few power tools because it's often the best, but realistically, that can be unaffordable and is often times far more work than it's really worth.

    Yes I agree that we are all over taxed 😞 all that tax money I feel is going into our politicians pocket, and into building other countries and definitely not our own country. It seems like all we can do is take it up the tailpipe😞 and stay at home and make nice rustic wood furniture as you did👍🏻 I have made some of our furniture mainly like you said, quality store-bought furniture is just too expense for what it is. Thanks for the video!!
